Frequently asked questions

What is my IP address?
Your public IP address is shown at the top of this page automatically — it is the address your internet connection presents to the websites you visit, along with its approximate location and ISP.
What is the difference between a public and private IP?
Your public IP is assigned by your internet provider and is visible to websites. Private IPs (like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) are used inside your home or office network and are not visible online.
Why is my IP location slightly wrong?
IP geolocation is accurate to roughly the city level and is based on your ISP, not GPS. On mobile data or a VPN it can show a different city or even country — that is normal.
Can I look up someone else’s IP address?
You can look up the public details of any IP (ISP, city-level location, ASN), but you cannot get a person’s name or exact street address from an IP — that information is private.
Is IPv6 supported?
Yes. The tool detects and looks up both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
Do you store my IP address?
No. The lookup runs in your browser and nothing you check is logged or stored.
